Using Apple TV with crowdbeamer makes for better business meetings

A good couple for business meetings

One of the many nice things about crowdbeamer is that it’s so easy to use in any meeting room setup. Especially when traveling from one meeting location to the next, that comes in very handy. All you need to do is take your crowdbeamer device with you, and connect it to your presentation laptop whenever you start presenting.

In particular, crowdbeamer works really well in meeting rooms equipped with an Apple TV. Both products make a good couple for business meetings.

Using Apple TV as a wireless screen mirroring device

You probably know Apple TV best for streaming video or sharing pictures via Airplay to your big TV screen at home. But since Airplay has a screen mirroring option, Apple TV is getting quite popular in meeting rooms as well. Many business apps (including PowerPoint, Keynote and several internet browsers) automatically activate Airplay mirroring. That makes it a breeze to present wirelessly from an iPad, iPhone or MacBook, and display your content on the TV screen connected to the Apple set-top box.

Wireless presentation benefits for everybody

What makes Apple TV even more interesting for business meetings is that you can easily switch presenters. All that is needed is to wirelessly connect via AirPlay and take over from the previous presenter. There is simply no chance of any hassle with cables.

Getting rid of cables makes life easier for everybody, there’s no doubt about that. However, meeting room cables are not my biggest concern when you’re giving a presentation. Far more important are questions such as

  • How do I make this meeting productive for everybody?
  • How do I let my audience capture my message, and complete it with personal insights?
  • How do I enable my audience to take my message with them once this meeting is over?

That’s precisely why using Apple TV with crowdbeamer makes so much sense. Crowdbeamer brings the benefits of wireless presentation to all meeting participants and enables presenters to create more impact with their message. Isn’t that what all of us are looking after, whenever we give a presentation?

So how to use Apple TV with crowdbeamer?

Using Apple TV with crowdbeamer is a piece of cake. All you need to do is connect it over HDMI to crowdbeamer, and crowdbeamer will take your presentation content straight to the laptops, tablets, and smartphones of all meeting participants.

And if you also want to have your presentation displayed on the TV screen, that’s possible as well. Just connect crowdbeamer’s VIDEO OUT port to the TV screen over HDMI, and you’re all set.

Benefits of using Apple TV with crowdbeamer

By mirroring your presentation content directly to all laptops, tablets, and smartphones in the meeting room, crowdbeamer boosts interaction and keeps everybody engaged. Using the crowdbeamer app, all meeting participants can capture your content in Full HD quality and complete it with notes. They can store all that on their device and sync it to the cloud – never again having to look for lost meeting notes.

Most important of all: meetings participants can take your message with them once the meeting is over, and share it with others.

Using crowdbeamer with Apple TV during business meetings delivers a top productivity experience for all because

you keep everybody engaged during the meeting,

it’s easy to share information to business apps,

there is no need to send emails afterwards,

and everybody can leave the meeting room with ready-to-use handouts.

Is crowdbeamer a ClickShare alternative?

Is crowdbeamer a ClickShare alternative?

Both crowdbeamer and ClickShare are wireless presentation systems that make it remarkably easy to share screen content. But their goal and how they work, is different.

Crowdbeamer’s top priority is to provide your audience with a great productivity experience: make sure they get the best possible view of what you present, deliver up-to-the-minute digital handouts and provide smart note-taking capabilities. ClickShare on the other hand is entirely focused on eliminating cable clutter in the meeting room. We’ll tell you more about all this, and briefly

The ClickShare CS-100 base unit & USB button, a many-to-1 screen sharing system

Crowdbeamer is a 1-to-many screen sharing solution that lets you reach out directly to your audience. Often mistaken as a ClickShare alternative, crowdbeamer streams your presentation content wirelessly to all portable devices of your audience. The crowdbeamer app provides everybody in your audience with a comprehensive set of features to capture your presentation content and complete it with personal notes.

ClickShare falls into the category of many-to-1 screen sharing systems and consists of a base unit and one or more click buttons. Depending on the type of base unit, up to 8 people can simultaneously share screens to a projector or a flat panel display by clicking a button, avoiding the use of a video cable.

Both crowdbeamer and ClickShare are wireless presentation systems, but only crowdbeamer lets you reach out directly to your audience.

Both crowdbeamer and ClickShare are wireless presentation systems. While ClickShare lets you share screens to a conference room display with the click of a button, crowdbeamer lets you reach out directly to your audience.

What is your top priority?

Getting rid of cables in the conference room will make life easier for you as a presenter. There’s no doubt about that. But there is more to better presentation productivity than getting rid of messy cables, including questions such as

  • How do I get my message across to every individual audience participant?
  • How do I make this meeting productive for everybody?
  • How do I let my audience capture my message, and complete it with personal insights?
  • How do I enable my audience to take my message with them once this meeting is over?

Crowdbeamer can help you with all of that, either just by itself or combined with ClickShare (or any ClickShare alternative for many-to-1 screen sharing).

To show you how, we’ll discuss the user experience both products deliver and how they work.  Of course, you can always ask us any question that you have on crowdbeamer. We’re only a button click away:

How crowdbeamer works

How crowdbeamer works

Just connect your laptop to a crowdbeamer, and you’re ready to share content directly with your audience. With the crowdbeamer app installed on their laptop, tablet or smartphone, all participants can instantly view your presentation on their portable device of choice. They can zoom in if more detail is needed, and readily create their personal handouts. Using crowdbeamer, you no longer need a projector or a flat panel display. But if there is one available, you might as well connect it to crowdbeamer and use it.

What you need:

  • a crowdbeamer,
  • a video cable (VGA or HDMI) to connect your laptop to the crowdbeamer.

What you don’t need:

  • a flat panel display or a projector (but if there is one available in the meeting room, you can perfectly use it),
  • a power outlet for your crowdbeamer (its built-in battery will keep you going for 4 hours).

What your audience needs:

  • a laptop, tablet or smartphone (which they will probably bring along anyhow, and which they can now put to use capturing high-quality images of your presentation content and adding their notes).

How ClickShare works

To share content to the conference room display, you need to plug the ClickShare button into your laptop. Make sure the button is wirelessly connected to the ClickShare base unit, and click to share your presentation. With any ClickShare alternative for many-to-1 screen sharing, that procedure will be very similar.

What you need:

  • a flat panel display or a projector (otherwise your audience won’t see anything),
  • a ClickShare base unit (which is connected to the meeting room display using an HDMI cable),
  • a power outlet for the base unit,
  • a ClickShare USB button to plug into your laptop.

What your audience needs:

  • something to take notes during the meeting (a laptop, a tablet, or even pen and paper),
  • a smartphone or tablet(in case they want to take pictures of the big screen).

How crowdbeamer & ClickShare work together

If you already have a ClickShare system (or any ClickShare alternative for many-to-1 screen sharing), using it with crowdbeamer is a breeze. One option is to install the crowdbeamer device fixed, in between the ClickShare base unit and the projector or flat panel display.

Crowdbeamer upgrades your existing ClickShare system (or any ClickShare alternative for many-to-1 screen sharing), bringing benefits of wireless presentation sharing to your audience as well.

Then plug the ClickShare button into your laptop, and start sharing. Whatever you share to the conference room display will now also be streamed to all portable devices of your audience.

By using crowdbeamer, benefits of wireless presentation sharing are no longer limited to yourself. Crowdbeamer upgrades your existing many-to-1 screen sharing system (whether it is ClickShare or a ClickShare alternative), boosting meeting productivity for every individual in your audience.

A second option is to install the crowdbeamer device fixed, and use a video splitter to replicate the ClickShare signal to both crowdbeamer and the projector or flat panel display.

A second option is to install the crowdbeamer device fixed, and use a video splitter to replicate the ClickShare signal to both crowdbeamer and the projector or flat panel display.

Again, all you need to do is plug the ClickShare button into your laptop to start sharing with your audience. Whatever you share to the conference room display will also be streamed to all portable devices around you.

How crowdbeamer & ClickShare work together ad hoc

With a weight of 500 grams, crowdbeamer is a portable solution that you can take with you into any conference room and instantly deploy whenever the need arises. Just connect crowdbeamer to your presentation device using an HDMI cable, and use it ad hoc during any meeting.

How crowdbeamer & ClickShare work together ad hoc

Again, this doesn’t change how you use the ClickShare button to share information with your audience. But by connecting crowdbeamer directly to your presentation device, anything that you share to the conference room display will also be streamed straight to all laptops, tablets and smartphones around you. There is simply no better way to boost meeting productivity for everybody in your audience.

Crowdbeamer is not a ClickShare alternative.

It’s a powerful extension to any ClickShare installation.

That is because crowdbeamer extends the benefits of ClickShare wireless presentation sharing to your audience, making it so much easier

  • to get your message across,
  • to make meetings productive for everybody,
  • to let your audience capture your message, and complete it with personal insights,
  • to let your audience take your message with them once the meeting is over.
Crowdbeamer & ClickShare: productivity vs flexibility

By streaming your content directly to all portable devices, crowdbeamer puts your content straight into the hands of your audience and provides them with up-to-the-minute digital handouts. Crowdbeamer’s smart note-taking capabilities then let them easily personalize these handouts by adding personal thoughts and remarks.

So if it is important for you to get your audience actively engaged in any meeting, then crowdbeamer is a must-have wireless presentation solution. One that you can use just by itself, to share your presentation content wherever you need. Or one that you can use to upgrade your existing ClickShare system, and bring the benefits of wireless presentation sharing to your audience as well.

Boosting productivity using Microsoft Surface Hub with crowdbeamer

A real productivity winner

Microsoft Surface Hub is a powerful team collaboration display for the modern workplace, enabling professionals to work together naturally. Crowdbeamer is a clever presentation system that makes it exceptionally easy to stream any screen content to all personal devices within reach. When used together, crowdbeamer delivers the results of Surface Hub team collaboration straight to everybody on the team. That boosts a productivity rise of the entire collaboration process.

How Microsoft Surface Hub works

Whether participants are spread around the world or all together in one conference room, Microsoft Surface Hub facilitates and strengthens collaboration and teamwork during meetings thanks to its many great features:

  • a large multi-touch display (both 84-inch and 55-inch versions offer the same features, with the 55-inch Microsoft Surface Hub having the added advantage of mobility),
  • a responsive pen and inking experience,
  • built-in video conferencing,
  • and a suite of onboard Office apps.

Participants can simply walk up and join a Skype for Business meeting with a single tap, or schedule a Skype for Business meeting from Outlook. Aside from scheduling, there is no difference between ad-hoc or scheduled meetings: all Microsoft Surface Hub apps and features are available in both.

Writing on the Surface Hub almost feels like using paper

To start collaborating using the Microsoft Surface Hub Whiteboard function, all that is needed is to take a pen from its docking station or launch the Whiteboard function from the Start menu. Then meeting participants can draw and write comments on the whiteboard or can copy text and images to it. They can do that from any app on the onboard computer, or from any application on a laptop, tablet or smartphone connected to the Surface Hub.

Thanks to the display’s short reaction time, writing on the Surface Hub almost feels like using paper… be it paper on which people can write simultaneously from different locations around the world. Microsoft Surface Hub enables Whiteboard to Whiteboard collaboration, letting remote users work jointly on a single whiteboard.

Powerful built-in video conferencing capabilities

When Microsoft Surface Hub is included in a Skype for Business meeting request, the Surface Hub screen can be presented to remote participants who can view it in their own Skype for Business window. Individual participants can join a Surface Hub meeting from their laptops when there is no meeting room available equipped with a Surface Hub. And if any of the remote participants want to present, Skype for Business will make sure their presentation content appears on the Surface Hub screen.

Also, Surface Hub has two cameras along each side. During video conferences, these allow the speaker to transition from one side to the other without exiting the video screen, or even blocking it completely.

Action is required before closing the meeting

At the end of each meeting, any notes and changes to documents are deleted from the Surface Hub hard drive to make sure unauthorized users can never access any information that should remain within the team. To make that information available to everybody on the team, the Surface Hub meeting administrator should not forget to take action before closing the meeting. Notes and changes to documents should either be emailed, uploaded to OneDrive or saved to a USB key.
